The Southern Terrain offers a unique opportunity to climb the local crags here in San Diego. The goal of the programs are to introduce you to rock climbing and provide the instruction to enable you to be safe and comfortable when climbing on your own. We offer a variety of levels to start with designed around increasing your capacity to climb a variety of routes. Each level will have a different skill set that will focus on, and the programs will build on each other by increasing in difficulty and complexity. TST will provide all technical equipment including: ropes, helmets, all anchor equipment, and harnesses. All climbs will be conducted in the San Diego area and will be held on Saturday or Sunday. Private lessons are available upon request. Minimum group size (4) maximum (10).

Intermediate Climbing Techniques

The intermediate climbing program will introduce belaying and the proper techniques to belay a partner. This program will also have anchor setting instruction for a top rope only and various setting systems depending on the location of the climb. We will also go through a repelling skills and how to use backup knots and safety skill techniques.

Advanced Climbing Skills

The advanced climbing skills will pull together the other programs and introduce lead climbing to the group. We will begin the course indoors understanding lead climbing basics and how to set quick draws. We will spend the rest of the course lead climbing and setting anchors on lead routes. We will also go through a rescue scenario to learn how to get out of certain situations.

Climbing Basics

Intro to rock climbing will be a course on proper gear and set up as well as basic safety. We have a climbing session at the gorge to become familiarized with being on the rope and provide basic instructional lessons on hand holds and effective techniques.
